Backing up important data can save you from sad situations and all it takes is to copy your files to a different location. Unfortunately, human error is always a factor, so you may forget to back up your files or copy the wrong ones. Like other similar utilities, Exiland Backup Free does not make these mistakes. While it is running, it will never forget to copy your important files to a location of your choosing, according to your personal settings. The software includes many features, which you would find in high end backup applications, but the main differences are that you do not have to pay for Exiland Backup and it is very easy to use.

The setup file comes in a 2.40 Mb archive. Once you extract and run it, you will have to go through the usual setup stages. Besides a destination folder, you will have to select a second one, where the software's settings and working files will be stored. Exiland Backup Free uses very little RAM and if you have a multi-core CPU, the software will use the cores in equal measure.

The software's functionality is based on creating automatic backup tasks. Once created, they are listed on the upper half of the interface, along with various descriptions. Additional details about a selected task are found under separate tabs, on the lower half of the main window. Here you will see the source files and folders, the task's starting time, the backups it creates and execution logs.

A task is created by following a wizard's instructions. After naming your task and selecting a source folder, you can set up numerous parameters. It is possible to include sub-folders, exclude certain file types or add specified ones only. You may also set the program to skip files with certain attributes, like Read only, Hidden or System. Exiland Backup Free lets you create full, incremental or differential backup tasks, as well as synchronization tasks, which makes an exact copy of your data. Any action, like adding, changing or removing files, in the source folder will reflect in your destination folder, due to the synchronization feature. You should also know that Exiland Backup Free is capable of storing your backed up data on a local disk partition, network drive, FTP server or on removable devices, like USB flash drives.

To conserve disk space, the software can be set to compress your data into a Zip archive. You can select different compression types (fast, normal or maximum), encrypt the archive or split it into multiple volumes. Tasks can be executed manually or scheduled to run automatically on a daily, weekly or monthly basis at a certain time. When you reach the last step of the wizard, you may set up notifications. Exiland Backup Free will inform you of executed tasks by email or mobile phone, over a network or can simply display a message on your screen.
